The 2020 Ostatu crops had a strong start with early spring buds but were later stunted by aggressive weather during the growing season. By harvest time, the yield was small, but the salvaged fruit was exceptional. As consumers, we’re fortunate to have what Mother Nature left on the vine. You might notice this wine flirting with your Sauv Blanc friends when they taste Ostatu’s crisp acidity. Your Chardonnay friends might be wooed, too, once they detect the concentrated body. It’s quite the charmer!
Learn a little: White Rioja, aka Rioja Blanco, can age 10 years or more. Ostatu was bottled as a young (joven) wine but there are other styles: Crianza: 12 months aging with 6 months in cask, Reserva: 24 months aging with 6 months in cask, Gran Reserva: 48 months aging with 6 months in cask, and Rosado/Rosé, which must meet the same requirements as one of the previous, plus 25% red wine.
Serve ‘fridge cold’, around 43 ⁰F. (Fridge time: 2 hours)
